Shelswell History Festival

The festival will for the first time be held in Newton Purcell alongside the annual Artists in the Countryside exhibition held in the School Room. Newton Purcell is seeing much disturbance due to HS2 being built through a part of the village and due to this and following the pandemic, this appeared to be the best time and place within the Shelswell area for the event.

We have agreed the location – please see the following post…..

The location of the 3rd Festival

Numerous activities are being booked and there will be a wide variety of refreshments.

We are a fully volunteer led and run event.

The Shelswell History Festival is a celebration of rural life, past and present.
The theme for this event is "Trade and Transport across the Ages" and we will be collaborating with Artists in the Countryside (an annual event held in the village).

There will be stalls, refreshments including tea, coffee and cakes, a BBQ and a beer tent,

a picnic area, a display of vintage vehicles, local village history,

Canterbury Tales players, children’s activities and an arena featuring varied activities to include reenactors,

Morris Dancers, a pipe band and a tug-of-war. Roman, Saxon and Home Guard reenactors are being booked.
